What now!?

The number one question I get asked from clients lately is “What Now?” or “What do I do now?” Which tells me we are all feeling a bit lost. It can be hard to feel like our acting careers are even important anymore with all that’s going on in the world. Let me be the first to reassure you that your dreams and your goals are important! When I worked as a drug and alcohol counselor years ago, the one thing I could point to in most clients/addicts is that somewhere along the way they lost what excited them about life—their dreams, their goals, their reason for getting out of bed in the morning!

I was an actor for most of my life and I remember the feeling of “Now what?” or just a loss of direction or focus. In this pandemic, I can only imagine that can feel amplified. In addition to “What now, or Now what?” I think there is the added question of “What does it matter?” 

I am here to reassure you that it does matter, Art matters, Artists matter. Sometimes art can reach someone in a way that information presented differently can’t. 

As artists we are also highly sensitive to injustice and pain and there has been so much of that lately – One of my clients called me after marching and attending a protest and she said it was one of the most painful things she’s ever experienced. She wasn’t even sure how to process it all, and I advised her to write about it, who knows what will come from that. That could be a short film, or a book, or a series, or feature film, or maybe just something that she takes with her into a character. We need feelings to be actors- and sometimes that is painful, but it is our job, it is why we make the big bucks.

I think right now we need to take baby steps and keep moving forward. I am here to support you in any way I can. I know this is a difficult time for some of us financially, but please don’t ever let lack of money stop you from contacting me. I will always do my best to accommodate you.

We need you! The world is hurting in a big way and art can heal. I hope all of you are safe, and healthy.
